In the music and liturgy world, we have been thinking about Christmas since July. As we start to make plans for the fall, we need to know how many singers and instrumentalists are planning to return to our choirs and other music ministry groups this fall.

Please take a moment to fill out this survey and let us know if you'll be joining us.

Our music ministry is made of people like you who choose to set aside some time in their lives to be part of something bigger than themselves. In doing so, you enrich the prayer life of our whole parish community, but you also become part of a community within a community. We want you-- your voice, your perspective, your talent, your heart-- and there is a place for you here. Let us know who you are and how you want to contribute.

St. Benedict's will host Evening Prayer for the Harvest of Hope Area Catholic Community on Sunday evening, June 5, to close out the Easter season.

Pentecost Evening Prayer is the last liturgy of the Easter season, so we celebrate it with joy! We will pray Evening Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours together, with special music by our choirs and instrumentalists and candle lighting.

When we finish praying, we'll move the party outside for a bonfire with s'mores. All of this music and fire is fun, but it also reminds us that the Holy Spirit burns among us as a community in the same way it did for the first apostles, gathered in that upper room, praying together. May our time together inspire us and renew our vision for ministry and for being the Body of Christ in this place and in this time.

After all the preparation, prayer, rehearsal, prayer, setting up, prayer, and celebrating liturgies together (with more prayer!), we have finally arrived at Easter. The tomb is empty. Jesus is risen, and we have fifty days to celebrate this mystery at the center of our faith.

What does it mean for us that Jesus is risen, that He is alive, that death doesn't win in the end? For each of us, it means something different...and that meaning can be new every year. The invitation of the Easter season, as we celebrate and sing our Alleluias, is that we get to ponder this mystery anew and figure out what it means in our lives, right now.

We've put together a playlist of Easter Alleluias and other Easter music for your listening enjoyment this season. As you listen, think about the empty tomb. Remember that sin and death are defeated. Jesus' resurrection is our resurrection, too. Love wins. Alleluia.
